The Hindu Theatre Fest 2015

The Hindu Theatre Fest is one of India’s most eagerly awaited cultural events. Launched in 2005 in Chennai, the fest is now in its 11th annual edition and will take place in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore in the months of August and September. This year, the Fest features eight plays, and is an eclectic mix of genres from acclaimed theatre groups in India and abroad. With audiences of over 10,000 every year, this annual celebration of theatre has grown from an event into an institution in its own right.

Synopsis: Q Theatre Productions play God of Carnage is an adaptation of an acclaimed play by Yasmina Reza andstars Shernaz Patel. Two children have a fight in a park. One suffers minor injuries. Their parents meet to discuss how to proceed. They’re only looking out for the children’s best interests. It’s all about the kids. Isn’t it? At least, that’s how it starts out.

Synopsis: Akvarious Productions The Government Inspector is an adaptation of the acclaimed, award-winning play. In the play, a group of dysfunctional actors comes together to play a group of small town money-grabbing officials who get the shock of their lives when they learn that a Government Inspector is being dispatched to investigate their town and all its local dealings. Originally written in 1836, Gogol’s classic is an energetic comedy of manners and errors, taken one step further by now not only being a madcap satire about corruption in a small town, but also about the theatre process itself.

Synopsis: Ashvin Gidwani Productions 2 to tango 3 to jive, starring film and theatre veteran Saurabh Shukla, follows the travails of Parminder Singh Sethi (Shukla), who is going through a midlife crisis. Parminder is bored to death with the mundane routine of his life. He feels as though life has passed him by, and he has nothing left to look forward to. In his state of ennui, and for the first time in his 22-year marriage, he is seriously considering indulging in an extra marital affair, believing that it will bring back his zeal for life.
